The BFC Fashion Awards 2022: The Winners & Red Carpet Best Dressed
Yesterday evening saw the most important, and glamorous, event in the British fashion calendar. Models, designers, writers, and actors (you get the gist), all gathered together at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the British Fashion Council’s 2022 Fashion Awards to celebrate the creme de la creme of the fashion industry. Filled to the glorious brim with sparkling outfits, elegant gowns and, well fashion, the event was a feast for the eyes with musical performances from Jessie Ware, and Olivia Dean and a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth with Britain’s leading bands.
Realistically though, there are two aspects that people are really interested in at the Fashion Awards, the winners and the red carpet looks! Winners were chosen by 1,000 global fashion industry professionals. The most anticipated award of the night, unsurprisingly, is that of Designer of The Year. Earlier in the week, the British Fashion Council announced the removal of Demna, creative director of Balenciaga, as a nominee for the award in light of the disturbing and suggestive ad campaign they released and its worthy backlash. Nominees included JW Anderson for Loewe, Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu, Raf Simons for Prada and Matthieu Blazy for Bottega but the prestigious award was given instead to Pierpaolo Piccioli for his work at Valentino. Dressed in a stunning red gown from the brand, Florence Pugh took to the stage to present the award. “Creativity wins. Our value wins. This victory belongs to me as much as to everyone that works for Valentino.” said Piccioli of his win, lasting having won back in 2018. London-born Grace Wales Bonner was honoured with the Independent British Brand award. Burberry was awarded the Metaverse Design Award meanwhile Katie Grand won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.
Highly unsurprisingly, Bella Hadid won Model of The Year just days after being names Lyst’s most powerful dresser of the year.
In an unexpected turn, Patagonia secured the Outstanding Achievement Award or perhaps it was unexpected given the decision of founder Yvon Chouinard's decision earlier this year to donate the entire company, worth a whopping $3 billion, to help the fight against climate change. A very worthy winner.
Of course, it’s important to be a nominee or a winner, but there is a certain thrill in attending the red carpet of such a beloved and coveted event showing off the best designers earth can offer. So, here are some of the best-dressed red carpet looks for you to gaze upon!
