Frolov’s Ode To The Ukrainian Woman
Dressing Beyoncé on her monumental Renaissance world tour, Sabrina Carpenter as she supports Taylor Swift, Måneskin and countless other musical mega’s is no small feat for Ivan Frolov and his eponymous fashion house. Frolov’s journey from compact brand to future couture staple was mirrored in the brand’s Spring 2024 presentation entitled ‘MOLODA’.
Meaning ‘young girl’ in Frolov’s native Ukrainian, the romantic troupe of ensembles succinctly embodied a distinct feeling of youth and freedom, inspired by the metamorphosis of blossoming. Featuring superbly fitting corset details, dramatic flowing tulles and crystalline laces the female body was placed on a pedestal of respect. Much like in the works of McQueen and Mugler, Frolov is a designer who understands how to generate confidence and pure sensuality in women’s clothing. The standout artefact from the presentation, held in the Bulgari Hotel, displayed the female as a flowering goddess as light pink silk rosettes cascaded along the bodice before joining a full skirt, reminiscent of a wedding gown in silhouette.
The Frolov moloda is daring, unafraid of her body and a carefully placed cut out. She is also in possession of a deep inner strength, represented in this couture collection in the form of a heart-shaped mirror, worn in each look in a variety of forms. The heart is worn as an accessory with the intention of never breaking. The heart also has a further connotation, Frolov’s adoration of Kyiv, his home. A city that, while in the grips of darkness currently, has clung on to its might, continuing to bloom. Chesnuts, a symbolic tree of Kyiv, are referenced in golden lace detailing found among several looks.
Elegant and at the pinnacle of craftsmanship, Ivan Frolov’s latest work is a homage to the powerful women that make and maintain Ukraine.
