London Fashion Week Changes In Wake Of Queen’s Death

With all due respect to the late Queen Elizabeth II, she has really thrown a spanner in the works by dying just a week before London Fashion Week. Set to kick off today, Thursday 15th September and conclude on the 20th, the British fashion scene has found itself scrambling in recent days to postpone, reorganise and cancel runway shows, parties and events in accordance with the national mourning period and Her Majesty’s state funeral on Monday the 19th.

Immediately following the announcement of the Queen’s passing on Thursday the 8th of September, The British Fashion council requested that ‘non-essential’ events, including parties, be cancelled. Designers and their teams have had to quickly make decisions on their own shows and collections. Raf Simmons announced they have cancelled their show entirely, with one assuming the brand will show their Spring/Summer 2023 collection via digital lookbook. Iconic British house Burberry announced on Friday that they will postpone their show until the 26th of September. A minute’s silence will take place before the Christopher Kane show on Sunday, which may also happen for many other shows.

Highly unsurprisingly, all shows set to be held on the date of the Queen’s funeral on Monday the 19th have been cancelled with these being either cancelled or postponed to a later date. However, there is no need to worry because there will still be a vast amount of collections to gaze at and enjoy in the coming days including Chopova Lowena, Molly Goddard, Simone Rocha, Richard Quinn and so very many more.
