Flowers and Straw Hats Dominate The Schiaparelli Fall 2022 Couture Collection

Haute couture fashion week was kicked off in Paris with the Schiaparelli Fall 2022 collection runway show. Under Daniel Roseberry, the brand has become known for its repetitive but effective use of black velvet and gold hardware, and while there were many examples of this at today’s show, we saw Roseberry experiment with new materials, fabrics and colours.

Roseberry wrote in the show notes, "All of us who work in fashion know that much of the rest of the world think what we do is silly. It’s a boring criticism, and we all argue otherwise, but if you think about it, fashion is silly at times. It’s also provocative, upending, challenging, and meaningful. It’s breathtaking. It’s beautiful.”

The designs in this collection mirror these sentiments perfectly. Perhaps the most beautiful aspects of this collection are the two main running motifs - the straw boater hats and flowers. The hats, which occur in black, white and classic straw, all have their own little quirks. From a little golden bird to a flurry of lavender. You could argue that some of these aspects are more adept for the Spring season, however, with the rest of the collection featuring dark tones they add a much-needed brightness.
