5 Winter Outfits Inspired By Rachel Green
If one thing is true when it comes to fashion this year it’s that 90s style is back, and upgraded for the 21st century. Winter is upon us and as we settle down into the coldest months of the year we start to evaluate the clothes in our wardrobe and the outfits we can pull together. When you think of 1990s fashion you may think of spaghetti strap dresses and mini-mini skirts which, unsurprisingly, don’t scream ‘10 degrees and chucking it down outside.’
Lucky for us, the 90s actually provided ample inspiration for the chillier times from knee-high socks and polo necks to big cosy jumpers and combat boots. Perhaps the most iconic character to have arisen during the last decade of the 20th century was Jennifer Aniston’s ever-beloved Rachel Green from the sitcom Friends. Just days ago she (Aniston, not Green) graced the pages of Allure in several outfits (if you can call a Chanel micro bikini top an outfit) reminiscent of the era that solidified her fame.
As we pull together our winter wardrobes, let’s take some inspiration Rachel Green!
POLO NECK AND MINISKIRT
Okay yes, we did say that mini skirts don’t necessarily scream winter, however, paired with a knit polo neck and thick pair of tights and they can really make the outfit! For a light ensemble copy Rachel Green’s tartan skirt and white polo or, go darker with a black mini skirt and burgundy polo.
OVERSIZED GOODNESS
One of life’s greatest gifts is the oversized cardigan, something that the ladies of Friends were no strangers to. But, why just stop at a cardigan? Pair a fitted top with a wide-legged pair of trousers to keep your look deliciously oversized without drowning you in fabric.
KEEPING WARM
Quite possibly the most important winter wardrobe asset is a good warm coat, and this (faux) fur one worn by Rachel Green would definitely stop you from shivering. And, who said you need to stick to dark neutrals? Go all out and buy a fun colour or print!
STAYING ACTIVE
While we may not like to accept it, working out is an excellent way to stay warm so why not do it in style and layer up appropriately? Athleisure is hard to get wrong and Rachel Green always perfected it.
TIGHTS
Why should you hide your legs in the winter? Show them off with a mini skirt or, like Rachel Green here, a pair of shorts just make sure to wear a pair of tights. Scared your legs may still get cold? Opt for a pair with a higher denier or, due to the wonders of technology, you can now buy fleece-lined pairs!
