These Are The Luxury Brands Ruling Fashion In 2023…So Far!

With 2023 well underway, consumers’ spending habits and loyalties are coming into focus with The Lyst Index’s 2023 Q1 report. The Lyst Index has become one of the industry's top reports indicating the rise and fall of luxury fashion houses and the trending items of a given Q (quarter) in a year. Lyst, a fashion tech company and premium shopping app, takes user behaviour and data to track product engagement and virality, leaving us with a pretty solid notion of where things currently stand.

Q1 2023 Breakout Brands. The Lyst Index.

Their 2023 Q1 report, which dropped recently, helps consumers and experts alike to decipher what is selling and, more importantly, what is not. So far this year, everything seems to be coming up roses for Miuccia Prada with Prada and then Miu Miu taking the top two spots on the hottest brands list. Moncler comes in at number three, reporting a +25% revenue in 2022. Valentino sits comfortably at number 4, meanwhile, Loewe, who is doing better than ever, comes in at number 5. Bottega Veneta, who reported 1.7 billion euros of revenue in 2022 is number 6 out of 20 on the catalogue. Perhaps due to their collaborations and work alongside multiple members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Dolce & Gabbana are next, just ahead of Versace and Gucci. In the middle spot, 10, is Saint Laurent.

Undeniably, these are to be seen as the most influential of the 20 on the index. Almost every brand here has found themselves working with younger, more social media-savvy audiences and are creating consistently innovative fashion collections that reach further afield than just the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Continuing the list into double figures is French superhouse Dior which sits ahead of Nike, Louis Vuitton and Diesel - all reliable and comfortable fashion brands. At number fifteen is Burberry who precedes Fendi and Skims. After facing severe backlash at the end of 2022, Balenciaga has seemingly lost its spark with consumers, sitting on the list at eighteen. Jacquemus and JW Anderson close out the hotly anticipated inventory.

Delving deeper into consumer habits, The Lyst Index has named Khaite, Magda Butrym and Ann Demeulemeester as breakout brands. While Ann Demeulemeester is in no way a new fashion house, the appointment of Ludovic de Saint Sernin as creative director has proven a profitable boost to the luxury brand with searches up 17% this quarter. Their trending product? The Stein leather boots.
