Royal Bride’s Glamourous Second Wedding Dresses

For many people one wedding dress will never be enough, after all, you’ll probably only get to do it once! Celebrities and average folk alike will cash out extra to have an evening look that suits their venue and personal style. Perhaps your ceremony gown was too restrictive and you want the freedom to dance the night away, or your evening venue is more laidback and requires a simpler design. Whatever the reason, second wedding gowns are ever-popular, especially amongst royalty. From Kate Middleton to Charlotte Casiraghi, let’s take a look at some of the most glamorous second wedding dresses of Royal brides.

When Princess Eugenie got married at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel in October 2018 she chose to wear a Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos gown specifically designed to show off her scoliosis scar. The dress was extravagant enough to fill St George’s without being over the top, but her second dress was more understated. She wore a blush-pink Zac Posen dress for her evening reception and the draping was phenomenal, creating an ethereal silhouette.

Princess Madeleine of Sweden

It’s a tradition for some to wear their mother or grandmothers wedding dress, and while Princess Madeleine chose to wear a custom Valentino lace gown for her ceremony, she donned one of her mother’s vintage ballgowns for the evening party. While it may not have been the Queen’s wedding dress, we think it was a lovely way to have something borrowed.

When Kate arrived outside of Westminster Abbey in 2011 the world was blown away by her custom Alexander McQueen dress. With a fitted bodice, full skirts and lace details the gown has gone on to influence other brides for a decade, but her evening dress is less well known. The evening dress was far simpler and understated, a simple satin a-line skirt, with sweetheart neckline and cream cardigan, you can imagine anyone looking beautiful in this gown.

After wearing a bespoke lace Giambattista Valli dress reminiscent of the 1970s for her ceremony, Grace Kelly’s grandaughter changed into a strapless custom-made white silk Chanel piece for the reception. To accessorise she wore Princess Grace’s Cartier diamond necklace.

Meghan’s style has always been sleek and clean, and this was evident on her Spring 2018 wedding day at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel. After wearing a simple bateau neck gown designed by Givenchy for the ceremony, she slipped into a halterneck dress by Stella McCartney, giving a clean silhouette.

Lady Kitty Spencer

Two dresses weren’t enough for Princess Diana’s niece, with Kitty wearing 5 Dolce and Gabanna dresses for her wedding celebrations. One of her evening gowns was an off-the-shoulder blush gown with handpainted flowers and Greco-Roman architecture. While it was certainly over-the-top it was certainly glamorous!
