Gemma Owens And Pretty Little Thing Makes No Sense
It was inevitable that at some point a recent islander from Love Island season 8 would sign some form of a deal with Pretty Little Thing, after all, Love Island alumni Molly-Mae is the creative director. For the first time in the history of the series, the show was not sponsored by a large fast fashion company and instead partnered with eBay which lead to runner-up Tasha Ghouri being announced as the brand's first-ever pre-loved ambassador earlier this month. Posting to her Instagram following of 1.2 million, Tasha spoke of her joy over the partnership saying “Prior to Love Island, I’ve always bought secondhand for my wardrobe, so partnering with eBay really is a dream come true”.
This announcement only led to more speculation as to who would get the often lucrative deal with PLT, and we need not speculate longer. In a decision that has stunned many online, including myself, the fast fashion giant has signed Gemma Owens. In a statement, PLT said that it has signed a year-long partnership with Owen and that she would be working with the e-tailer on her own PLT collections. Owens will also create content across the brand’s varying social media platforms.
Gemma Owens seems thrilled with the deal saying, “This really is a dream come true for me. I wore PrettyLittleThing throughout my time on the show and now being announced as one of their newest ambassadors alongside some incredible talent including Love Island alumni is really special. The team have been amazing and I’m excited to get to work and start designing some collections for you all.”
While those actually involved in the deal seem perfectly content, the internet is quite frankly flummoxed. The general consensus amongst social media users was that Indiyah was the expected choice with her personal style fitting closely with PLT’s overall aesthetic.
We’ll just have to wait and see whether this collaboration proves to work or not.
