11 of Liza Minnelli’s Top Looks From The 1970s
Thanks to Netflix's new miniseries ‘Halston’, a new generation has fallen in love with the absolute icon that is Liza Minnelli. Born in 1946 to Old Hollywood stalwart Judy Garland and American film director Vincente Minnelli it was inevitable that Liza would end up a star in her own right, influencing all areas of art, film, theatre and fashion. Minnelli began working as a nightclub singer, as we see in the first episode of Halston, as a teenager while doing the odd appearance on her mothers TV shows. The 60s were a time of music for Liza, recording several records as well as becoming the youngest person to win a Tony Award for best actress. But the 70s was when she made a name for herself - when she became more than just Judy Garland's daughter. Chopping her hair from long and luxurious to the choppy pixie cut we most commonly associate with her and winning the best actress Academy Award for her performance in the 1972 film ‘Cabaret’ cemented Liza as a style icon for the younger generation.
As we can see from ‘Halston’, Liza did have a love of fashion. She played with fashion and always trusted Halston to make outfits for her that would turn heads.
So, let’s hop in a time machine and take a look at some of Liza Minnelli’s best looks from the 1970s together.
